Severe Weather Awareness Week Aims to Keep You Safe

(February 19, 2014) Jackson, Tenn.- The National Weather Service is conducting the Tennessee Severe Weather Awareness Week from February 16-21.

The purpose is to prepare and call attention to the peak severe weather season that happens historically in March, April, and May.

From 1950 to 2013, Madison County has seen 30 tornadoes, Gibson County has seen 28, and Henderson County 17.

The sirens sounded on Wednesday, February 19, as a drill that tested both the sirens and the NOAA Weather Radio.

For more information on how you can prepare for severe thunderstorms, tornados, hail, and floods, visit the NWS Severe Weather Awareness Week website. http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ohx/?n=swaw2014
