Scout Week celebration continues – activities promote fun, fellowship

Jackson, Tennessee – West Tennessee Area Council of Boy Scouts of America is celebrating Scout Week (Oct. 16-22) with host of fun activities for all scouting families in the region.

According to a press release from Tajuana Cheshier – The Bramblett Group – Wednesday is the day to represent BSA as Scouts, Scout families, alumni and supporters are encouraged to wear their Scout uniform, a Scout event shirt, hat, scarf or anything that shows Scout’s pride as a member of the organization.

That same day at 6 p.m., local leaders will host an open house at the Aviation Explorer Post at McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport in Jackson individuals interested may learn more about careers in aviation.

Friday starts the biggest event of the year for Cub Scout families, as Fall Family Camp will be held at Camp Mack Morris. Come out for a weekend of camping, s’mores, a haunted trail, haunted house, and more. Information and registration is available at https://www.westtnscouts.org/fallfamily. The day will feature a social hour and silent auction at the Lazy L Ranch starting at 6 p.m. Register online by making a donation of any amount here: https://donations.scouting.org/li/social. The Sporting Clays Challenge at the Lazy L Ranch (40 Algie Neely Road in Jackson) will be held Friday and Saturday. Scouting week began Sunday with Scouts Up at SkyZone, where scouts could get a free jump pass at the West Tennessee Scouts Council Service Center and jump around at SkyZone for free. Various local scouting units watched the film “Up” as part of Monday movie night at Camp Mack Morris (hosted by Pack 72), Gene Record Memorial Park (hosted by Pack) and Troop 25 and Brighton Cub Hut (hosted by Pack 260.)

Tuesday was Scout Giving Day, which was created in 2022 with a simple goal in mind: To give everyone a chance to do some good together and on the same day. Many are familiar with the National Giving Tuesday, held every year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

So what’s the deal with Scouting Giving Day for West Tennessee Scouts? Simply put, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd on such a big day. And the mission is to incorporate Scout Giving Day into a brand new Scout Week that brings scouting families, leaders, and donors together for a shared and powerful purpose – preparing tomorrow’s leaders.

At noon Tuesday, Jackson National Golf Course, the Swinging For Scout golf tournament was held.

The tournament was presented by FirstBank and the Ayers Foundation.

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes. The West Tennessee Area Council has thousands of Scouts each year involved in their organizations throughout 20 counties of the region.
