Buses normally used to transport students to and from school, worked overtime Saturday for the Regional Interfaith Association’s annual ‘Pack The Bus,’ Food Drive which provides food for snack backpacks for children at risk of going hungry over the weekend.
Buses were station at both Walmart Supercenter locations and Kroger Supermarkets at 35 West University Parkway and 941 North Parkway in the Lynnwood Place Shopping Center.
During the 2016-17 school year, over 168,000 meals were distributed to more than 1,000 elementary school children.
Snack backpack items include Pop-Tarts, Ramen Noodles (chicken or beef), microwave popcorn, apple sauce, oatmeal (single serve packs), chicken noodle soup (pop-tops), Ravoli (pop-tops) and macroni and cheese (individual packets/bowls.
For those interested in participating in the program, $3.78 will feed one child for one weekend, and $159 will feed one child for the school year.
