The consideration of an ordinance to rezone property at 623 and 635 Oil Well Rd., from single family residential to an office district was approved by the Jackson City Council, which held its June meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

The City Council denied a request to rezone property located at 10 McClellan Rd., for the same purpose.

“One was approved and one was not,” Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist said. “The one approved on Oil Well (Road) which is going to office rather than residential. Oil Well has the characteristics of being a dual zone where you have a lot of commercial – a lot of office space a lot of banks.”

Gist later addressed the Roundabout, which will be constructed at the intersection of North Highland Avenue and East and West Deaderick Streets.

“It was a proposal the city agreed to when the LiFT and Jackson Walk became reality … mainly because of pedestrian usage crossing (North) Highland at the LiFT,” Gist said. “It’s all federal and state funding, and hopefully we will get underway in October.”

New Business

The council approved the consideration of state contracts for mowing services, and the Open Records Policy as required by state law, July 1, 2017.
Ford Construction Company was approved to construct a new bridge at Westover Road.
The council authorized a resolution for the Madison County Clerk to sell city stickers, and approved the continuation of the JAG Grit Contract for the Jackson Police Department.
