Republicans and Democrats Call For Election Primary

 

Madison County Sheriff’s office will be an included partisan seat

 

Elections won’t be until August of 2014 but races are already heating up.

 

Republicans and Democrats have both decided on the primary races and there are some changes.

 

Both parties have decided to include the office of Madison County Sheriff.  

 

Other offices include:

 

REPUBLICAN

County Mayor

County Commission (25 seats)

Circuit Court Clerk

Juvenile Court Clerk

County Trustee

County Clerk

Registar

County Constables (10 seats)

 

Additionally, the Republican party leaders Judicial nominating committee calls for a multi-county primary,  DIstrict 26 (Madison, Henderson,

 

Circuit Court Judge (all three divisions, I, II, III)

 

DEMOCRAT

County Mayor

County Commission (25 seats)

Circuit Court Clerk

Juvenile Court Clerk

County Trustee

County Clerk

Registar

County Constables (10 seats)

General Sessions Judge (Division I, II)

 

Additionally, the Democrat party leaders nominating committee calls for a multi-county primary in all Judicial offices  DIstrict 26 (Madison, Henderson, Chester)

 

Public Defender

District Attorney

Chancellor

Circuit Court Judge (all three divisions, I, II, III)

 

The last time a Primary was called for the office of Madison County Sheriff was in 1994.  In that race there were 5 candidates.

Jerry Bastin (R) – 7089 votes

Sammy Britt (D) – 4065 votes

Todd Krasner (I) – 104 votes

Roy Spencer (I) – 278 votes

David Woolfork (I) – 8370 votes

 

Since 1998 the Sheriff’s race has been non-partisan election.

 

Madison County Sheriff David Wookfork  was asked about the decision to call for a primary for the office and had these comments, “The sheriff’s office should serve everybody and it should be non-partisan.  While a republican or democrat can serve all, it’s the perception of partisanship that I think sends the wrong message”,  Woolfork has already announced he will not seek a sixth term

 

Primary elections will be held May 6, 2014.  By state law, voters will be required to declare a party affiliation to vote.
