Public to be heard on indigent legal representation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A task force studying how lawyers are compensated for work with defendants who are unable to afford legal counsel will be holding sessions in West Tennessee this week to hear from the public.

The Indigent Representation Task Force will be at the Criminal Justice Center in Memphis from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and at the Chancery Building in Trenton from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.

Anyone who wants to speak should complete an online form available athttp://www.tncourts.gov/node/4123594 .

The panel will also make stops in Johnson City on May 19, Knoxville on May 20, Cleveland on June 9, Cookeville on June 10 and Nashville on July 29.

The Tennessee Supreme Court created the task force last year to study how indigent representation is administered in the state.
