BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—School officials confirmed this morning that they have taken job actions against the two top managers at Haywood High School.
Earlier today, school superintendent Joey Hassell announced he’d suspended HHS Principal Dr. Jerry Pyron. Later this morning, the superintendent’s office confirmed that Assistant Principal Tim Seymour has also been suspended. The suspensions are pending the outcome of his office’s investigation into troubling text messages sent by high school students
While the superintendent’s office did not release specific information about the suspensions, protesters charged that the high school’s leadership had known about the text messages before a Facebook post went viral Sunday, setting off the firestorm of controversy.
In a news release issued last night, Hassell said determining if high school administrators have followed school board policy is part of his investigation. He expects to have gathered enough information to conclude his work by the end of the week.
Central office staffers Yvette Blue and Chris Davis have been temporarily assigned to the high school, according to Hassell.
