Police Question Person of Interest in Homicide

(October 18, 2013) Jackson TN – Carlos Ross, of Nashville, turned himself in to Jackson police around 4:30 p.m. Thursday in
connection with the Wednesday morning homicide of 49-year-old Clinton Berry.

After investigators questioned Ross, he was booked into the Madison County Jail on an
outstanding probation violation warrant out of Davidson County, Division VI Criminal Court. Ross
is on probation for a drug-related charge in Nashville.

Around 3:10 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to Richcove apartments, located at 520 Berry
Street. Clinton Berry and his girlfriend, 53-year-old Donna Love had both been shot.

Berry and Love were transported by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Berry was pronounced dead, and Love was transported to the Regional Medical Center at
Memphis.

As of this morning, Love remains at the Memphis hospital in stable condition.

The investigation has shown that Berry and Love lived in Richcove apartments. Berry and a man
had a fight that started outside on the second floor of the apartment complex. The fight continued
downstairs.

After the fight, Love handed Berry a sword. 33-year-old Carlos Ross was outside but was not a party to the
previous fight.

Without provocation, Berry approached Ross with the sword. Ross then shot Berry and shot Love
who was armed with a handgun.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements support these findings. Investigators will submit
the case file to the District Attorney's Office for review.

At this time, police have not charged Ross with any crime related to the shooting.
