Police Investigate Shooting on College Campus
On Monday around 11:13 a.m., Jackson Police received a call of a shooting that had occurred outside on the campus of Lane College. Investigators talked to witnesses and gathered information that Christopher Hill, 21, of Memphis, had been shot in the leg and left the campus by private vehicle. Police immediately checked the emergency rooms at both local hospitals but no one showed up.
Around 4:30 p.m., Hill arrived at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital emergency room with a gunshot wound to the left leg. Hill told police that he and Jason Mays, 19, got into a fight off campus on Saturday night and this morning Mays approached him and shot him in the leg. Mays and Hill are both
Lane students.
Hill is expected to be treated and released tonight. Upon his release, he will be booked into the Madison County Jail for failure to comply with a court order out of
