Thursday night around 8:15 p.m., Jackson police received a call that a man had
been shot. Officers responded to the 100 block of Bennett Street where Michael Dewayne Bell, 28, of Jackson, was found lying on the ground. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital by ambulance.
He was pronounced dead shortly before 10 p.m. Investigation has determined that Bell was approached by a black male and shot on the parking lot at Lane Express Mart, 369 Lane Avenue. After being shot, Bell ran behind the store towards Bennett Street.
Jackson police are looking for a short black male who was last seen wearing a dark-colored, hooded jacket, dark pants, black tennis shoes and sunglasses. He was last seen getting into a newer model burgundy or maroon Saturn Ion.
