Police Charge Man with October Family Dollar and Two November Dollar General Store Armed Robberies

Jackson police have charged 20-year-old Donald Grant of Jackson, with an October armed robbery at a Family Dollar and two November armed robberies at Dollar General Stores.

Around 9:10 p.m. Nov. 8, police responded to an armed robbery at Dollar General, located at 1028 Campbell Street. An armed man entered the store and demanded money from the register.

After taking the money, the man ran from store on foot to a car parked on Fernlawn Street at Locust Lane. Patrol officers responded quickly and approached the man as he sat in the car. The man ran from the car but was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. He was identified as Donald Grant.

The car was searched and items found inside linked Grant to the Dollar General robbery the night before. Around 9:15 p.m. Nov. 7, Grant and another identified man entered the Dollar General at 2097 N. Parkway. Grant was armed with a handgun, and the second man was unarmed. They took the money from one register and fled the scene on foot.

Grant had previously been developed as a suspect in the Family Dollar robbery around 8:20 p.m. Oct. 24. Investigators determined that Grant entered the Family Dollar, located at 1000 Whitehall Street. Grant was armed with a pistol and took money from a register, a customer’s cell phone and another customer’s wallet. He then fled on foot.

Police recovered the gun used in the robberies, as well as the money taken from the Dollar General on Campbell.

On Nov.9, Grant's bond was set at $500,000 on all three robberies. He continues to be held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of bond.

Grant is scheduled to be formally arraigned in Jackson City Court.

Anyone with information on the second suspect in the Nov. 7 Dollar General armed robbery on N. Parkway is asked to contact the Jackson Police Department's Major Crimes Bureau at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477 (TIPS).
