Gibson County Lake
Water temperature: upper 50s, lower 60s

Bass: “They are really scattered,” Trenton’s Brent Smith said. “Square bill cranks that dive three-to-six-feet are working well off secondary points and back in the flats along the ditches and old fence rows.”

Crappie: Brent said crappie have been very shallow back in the creeks and flooded flats, but they are hitting black and chartreuse jigs.

Kentucky Lake/Lake Barkley
Water temperature: mid to upper 50s

Bass: “Largemouth and smallmouth bass are still scattered, but a few nice fish (have been) caught in the small cuts off the main lake casting Alabama rigs and lipless cranks,” Darrell Van Vactor said. “Some nice smallmouth bass are being taken off long extended points on the east side of Kentucky Lake, throwing creature baits and jigs.”

Crappie: “Crappie are improving, but the numbers are still very low for this stage of the spawning season,” Darrell said. “A few male fish are being taken casting a bobber and jig rig along secondary points and banks with gravel while others are picking up female fish suspending over cover in six-to-eight-feet of water.”

Darrell said White/chartreuse and red/chartreuse jigs are working best on the deeper fish.

“It is a good time to start using those electronics, and searching for Red Ear and Bluegill on old roadbeds and along pea gravel banks where yellow flowers are beginning to bloom,” Darrell said.”Both lakes are on a gentle rise (and) will continue to rise possibly another foot due to recent rains along the reservoir.”
