JACKSON Tenn (May 23, 2016) – Jackson police said a woman who shot herself after a May 13 standoff with officers has died. The shooting occurred near First Tennessee Bank on Frontage Road at Oil Well Road.
According to Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser, officers were conducting a welfare of the woman when she pointed a gun at officers. Wiser said “officers tried to talk her down,” but the woman shot herself.
Wiser said officers did not fire their guns. Wiser said the officers used good judgement and their training to try and help the woman and did all they could under the circumstances.
Jackson officers were trying to check on the woman after a BOLO (be on the lookout) was issued by Gibson County law enforcement saying the woman was believed to be suicidal and might be armed with a handgun, Wiser said.
The woman’s name was not been released.
