JACKSON Tenn (February 24, 2015) — Cepeda Coble had his first court appearance on Tuesday. The man police say hit, kicked, and stomped Jackson Police officer Sgt Mike Thomas during an investigation of a domestic altercation involving Coble and his mother.

Sgt Thomas told investigators he was outside 2325 N Highland Ave. Exxon, on Sunday night. Thomas was in uniform and on duty, he was not dispatched to the scene but said he stopped for a cold drink.
Sgt Thomas said he was approached by the two subjects he later learned were Linda Coble and her son Cepeda Coble. The two looked animated and Cepeda looked agitated, said Thomas. According to Thomas, he asked both to step back away from him and that’s when Cepeda Coble struck him with his fist. Thomas said Coble continued to strike and kick him after he was on the ground.
Sgt Thomas was able to call for help and give a description of Cepeda Coble who fled the scene. Two Jackson Police officers located a person that fit the description in front of Tulum restaurant, on Carriage House Dr., a short distance from the original scene. the officers approached and Cepeda shouted at the officers. Cepeda picked up a rock then sat it down and took a fighting stance, according to officers.
According to the officers, Cepeda refused to follow orders. A Taser was deployed and he was taken into custody.
Thomas was transported to Jackson Madison County General Hospital Emergency Room and later admitted tot he hospital.
Cepeda Coble is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. Coble did not enter a plea and was order to undergo a mental evaluation.
The judge set Coble’s bond at $250, 000. His next court appearance is set for March 6th.
