Not so fast—Megasite waste hits another snag

A week ago today we reported that the Megasite Wastewater Permit had been granted—yesterday we learned that at least three people want the state’s decision reviewed. The Permit has been appealed.

Angel Adkins, Sonny Connell and Adrienne Heinzelman filed near identical complaints. The paperwork claims there is environmental impact state officials have not considered. They also say those working on the permitting may not be qualified to do so. Heinzelman’s e-mail to the state reports she has “…photo evidence of the ponding surface water and swamped-out cropland during flood and receding water.” It is unclear if she means that occurs near the pipeline’s outfall at the Mississippi River

All three complainants are from Tipton County.

The state has not issued comment on the filings.

The 40-mile long pipeline is designed to take evacuate treated wastewater from the Megasite located in Haywood County.
