Noah Spencer, a running back, and free safety at the University of Jackson was in mid-season form during the Bruins’ 14-7 win over Peabody, Friday.
A junior, Spencer gained 170 yards on 25 carries, scored both USJ touchdowns – one a 50-yard run – had one reception for five yards and intercepted a Peabody pass.
For his efforts, he was named the NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week.’
“I want to thank 101.5 FM for this award,” Noah said, “It’s a great team award … could not have done it without them, great linemen blocking, wide receivers blocking downfield, (overall) great coaching, great game plan and we’re ready for next week.”
USJ plays Union City at home, Friday.

Derrick Pritchard – “A good win against a quality opponent. Trenton Peabody is a really good program … good staff, good players. We knew it was going to be tough and knew we would have to play hard for 48 minutes.
“Our guys answered the request … I challenged them before the game to make sure that when Trenton Peabody left the field, they knew they had been in a fight for 48 minutes.
“Noah (Spencer) had a big game … we got behind Noah and he became our bell cow – 25 carries, 170 yards – so we rode him for the majority of the game.
“He also played defense – free safety – good tackles, obviously an interception for a big return. We’re really proud of him, but it wouldn’t have been possible without our offensive line up front creating some holes and some opportunities.”
