It was something old and something new when the Jackson City Council held its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.
Scott Conger, who was sworn in as Mayor of Jackson, Monday, presided over his first meeting with newly elected Council members Russ McKelvey, Gary Pickens, Paul Taylor and Marda Wallace.
They joined returnees Ernest Brooks II, Harvey Buchanan, David Cisco, Johnny Dodd and Ross Priddy.
“Great council meeting this morning,” Conger said, “We had our council members – new and returning – sworn in. We had a very light agenda, but had a great discussion on moving forward and how we can look at our finances, revenue and expenditures and establishing our budget committee to make a realistic budget for a long term benefit.”
The budget committee will consist of Ernest Brooks II, Mark Johnstone, Andrew Long, Doug Roth, Paul Taylor and Ron Tharpe.
The council elected David Cisco to serve as vice mayor, Ross Priddy as treasurer and approved the re-appointment of Al Laffoon as City Recorder.
Conger was appointed to replace Mayor Jerry Gist on the Planning Commission and Marda Wallace replaces retired council member Randy Wallace.
Councilmen Johnny Dodd, Russ McKelvey and Gary Pickens were approved to serve on the Jackson Beer Board.
