New Chick-fil-A restaurant headlines top business stories for 2021

Looking back before looking ahead. According to Grace Media Group – NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, 93.1 FM & WNWS.COM, here are the top 10 most visited online local business stories for 2021.

1) Chick-fil-A building new restaurant in Jackson – May 5, 2021

Chick-fil-A (file photo) is adding a new location in Jackson.

The Jackson Municipal Planning Commission approved the request for the southwest corner of North Highland Avenue and Tinker Hill Road.

The location is a section of land near the Old Hickory Mall.

The restaurant will consist of 4,759 square feet located on a 1.42 acre lot, with 52 parking spaces.

Chick-fil-A (had) three locations in Jackson – 3 Stonebridge Boulevard, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and inside the Old Hickory Mall – now closed – at 2021 North Highland Avenue.

2) Former Steak ‘n Shake building demolished on Vann Drive to make way for new restaurant – May 4, 2021

The building that was home to Steak ‘n Shake has been demolished, but according to a developer at the site who asked to remain anonymous, Chipotle Mexican Grill will open a new restaurant at the 883 Vann Drive location.

Telephone calls to Chipotle were not returned.

3) Nestle’ Toll House Cafe’ opening in West Towne Commons – February 22, 2021

Nestlé Toll House Café, 25 Stonebrook – Suite G2 – is scheduled to open March 1.

The 1,600-square-foot facilty is located next door to Kroger in West Towne Commons.

Matthew Wright – Buchanan Realty Group – brokered the transaction.

“The bakery café concept is doing very well in this market and Nestle offers a unique spin on this approach to dining,” Wright said, “With more than 90 locations, this will be the second restaurant to open in Tennessee.”

The menu consists of items such as cookies, cookie cakes, brownies, ice cream, milk shakes, smoothies, and a full line of hot and frozen coffee beverages. The Nestlé Toll House Cafés are commonly found in shopping malls or shopping centers.

4) Construction begins on new Chick-fil-A on North Highland Avenue – September 7, 2021

An opening date has not been announced, but construction on a new Chick-fil-A near the Old Hickory Mall at the southwest corner of North Highland Avenue and Tinker Hill Road has started.

The restaurant will consist of 4,759 square feet located on a 1.42 acre lot, with 52 parking spaces.

Chick-fil-A has three locations in Jackson – 3 Stonebridge Boulevard, Jackson-Madison County General Hospital and inside the Old Hickory Mall, 2021 North Highland Avenue.

5) Dollar General store closes temporarily due to staff shortages – May 21, 2021

Dollar General has temporarily closed 111 Old Hickory Blvd., in Jackson due to staff shortages.

Stores at 781 Airways Blvd., and 700 Hollywood Drive are working with limited hours.

6) Macy’s closing in Old Hickory Mall – January 6, 2021

According to published reports, Macy’s is closing in the Old Hickory Mall.

The store is scheduled to close April 30.

A day after confirming more stores would close, the department store chain Wednesday revealed a new round of store closures. Macy’s, Inc. which also runs Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury, identified the Jackson location as one of the 36 namesake stores and one Bloomingdale’s expected to shutter by or before midyear. The company also listed nine stores that recently closed.

The string of closures are part of Macy’s three-year plan to close one-fifth of its stores or roughly 125 locations, which was first announced in February 2020, before the coronavirus pandemic led to temporary store closures starting in mid-March.

7) West Alley BBQ & Smokehouse closes on Vann Drive – April 4, 2021

According to its Facebook page, West Alley BBQ & Smokehouse, 1110 Vann Drive, has closed.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to change locations. We will announce soon our new location and opening.

The restaurant opened in early July, 2019 after relocating from 215 W. Main St., in downtown Jackson.

The Vann Drive location consisted of 4,640-square-feet with seating for about 90 customers, a stage for live entertainment and a brewery.

8) Chick-fil-A to close permanently at Old Hickory Mall – December 28, 2021

Management declined comment, but Chick-fil-A inside the Old Hickory Mall, 2021 North Highland Avenue, closes permanently, at 4 p.m., Friday (December 31).

An opening date has not been announced, but construction on a new Chick-fil-A near the Old Hickory Mall at the southwest corner of North Highland Avenue and Tinker Hill Road continues.

The restaurant will consist of 4,759 square feet located on a 1.42 acre lot, with 52 parking spaces.

Chick-fil-A is also located at 3 Stonebridge Boulevard and inside Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

9) Steak n’ Shake ‘temporarily closed’ on Vann Drive – February 23, 2021

The menu drive thru board at Steak ‘n Shake, 883 Vann Drive has been removed, and according to signage the ‘Restaurant closed temporarily.’

Management could not be reached for comment.

10) Jerry Stanfill, Sonic restaurant owner, passes away – July 31, 2021

Details are limited, but Jerry Stanfill, Sonic restaurant owner in Jackson, Paris and Clarksville, has passed away.

Jerry owned six Sonic restaurants in Jackson, six in Clarksville and one in Paris.
