From the NAACP – Jackson-Madison County Branch –
The Jackson-Madison County NAACP calls for the Jackson-Madison County School System to reconsider school opening without a mask mandate for all participants.
We are very concerned that a lack of a mask mandate in Jackson-Madison County schools poses a potential risk for school students, teachers, and staff to contract the COVID-19 Viruses.
The decision by the Jackson-Madison County School System to not implement a mask mandate could expose all parties involved to the dangerous and deadly COVID-19 virus, especially the Delta Variant, which is highly contagious.
The variant attacks younger victims and particularly those not vaccinated. The state of Tennesse ranks near the bottom in total vaccinations nationwide. We clearly believe that it is a right for those who decide not to wear a mask, but it does not give them the right to infect those around them.
We highly recommend that everyone be aware that you can be a carrier or susceptible to the mutating viruses. Individuals who wish not to be vaccinated or wear a mask should be given the opportunity to participate virtually. We should not be using our children as political pawns.
