NAACP Hosts Community Issues Forum

(January 18, 2014) Jackson, Tenn.-  The Jackson-Madison County Branch of the NAACP held a community issues forum after the screening of a speech by author Michelle Alexander.

 

Michelle Alexander is the author of “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness.”

 

Her speech, which can be viewed HERE touched on how the incarceration of African-Americans has affected families and communities.

 

The discussion afterward was led by Harrell Carter, the Jackson-Madison County NAACP Branch president. 

 

After the discussion, a representative from the Moms Demand Action group spoke to the group about their cause.

 

Moms Demand Action is am group that, “educates, motivates, and mobilizes moms and families to take action for stronger gun laws and policies that save lives.”
