A little about Type O Neg:
O negative blood is special because it is the universal blood type, meaning that it is the preferred choice for blood transfusions. This is especially true when the recipient’s blood type is unknown or in the case of an emergency when there is no time to test the recipient’s blood group.
Less than 7% of the U.S. population have type O-negative blood. Our hospitals, emergency departments, and trauma teams depend on frequent O-negative donations to ensure it’s always available for patients in need. For the 21 hospitals that LIFELINE serves, it is the most ordered blood type.
