(September 24, 2013) MILAN – The Milan Special School District held its monthly meeting on Monday September 23rd. The meeting was called to order at 5:30, and the board was called upon to approve the nights agenda. The group quickly ran down notes from the previous meeting, and then discussed financial Planning and the School Nutrition program. The first portion of the meeting wrapped up with Lisa Bradford reviewing the approval of fional budget amendments.
The next portion of the Meeting Valerie Campbell , MEA President discussed the successful year the MSSD had. Mrs. Campbell,noted several great accomplishments the distinct had achieved, including the Apple Award. The meeting moved on quickly and Milan Principle Kris Todd, addressed the topic of recent ACT scores. Todd gave an excellent detailed presentation, but unfortunately, Milan High School's average scores had been dropping. It was noted that they had dropped on a National Level as well, but Todd made no excuses, he said they would work to get this back were it needed top be.
Director Mary Reed was on hand of course and gave the group some good news from the High School. The Milan Marching Band had went a regional band competition at UT Martin last week and walked away with first place honors. Reed said the weather was bad , but the students did not let it damper their spirits, she was very proud of their efforts. She also had good news stating that both Milan Boys and Girls Golf had qualified for the state championship next month.
The meeting wrapped with an announcement that the TBSA Leadership Conference would be November 8-11. Then the floor was open to the public and no comments were made. The Meeting was adjourned with an announcement the next meeting would be held on October 28th at 5:30.
