JACKSON, Tenn. — Michael Allen Smith Junior faces two separate in Jackson City Court with unlawful possession of a firearm and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police say Smith tried to avoid arrest by passing a loaded gun to a 17-year-old. According to the warrant on September 16, investigators with the Jackson Police Department’s Gang Unit saw Michael Smith standing by a car in a parking lot in the 600-block of Whitehall Street. The officers saw Smith raise his shirt, and observed a gun in his waistband. Smith allegedly spotted the officers and walked toward a truck parked in the lot where the 17-year-old was standing. Officers approached Smith, who they say no longer had the gun. A 9mm Taurus handgun was loaded with six rounds in the magazine was found in the waistband of teenagers pants.
