Madison County Sheriff’s deputy seizes 73 pounds of Fentanyl pills in traffic stop, arrest made

From the Madison County Sheriff’s Office –

On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at approximately 11:34 p.m., a Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy made a traffic stop at the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Carriage House Drive in Jackson, Tennessee, that led to the discovery of seventy-three (73) pounds of Fentanyl pills, which equates to over 300,000 pills with a street value in the millions of dollars.

The traffic stop was made Wednesday evening when the deputy stopped a silver Hyundai Santa Fe bearing Texas registration for traffic violations.

Jose Luis Vargas Barrera, 46, from Houston, Texas, was arrested and charged with improper lane usage, due care, and possession of schedule II with intent. Mr. Barrera is now booked into the Madison County Jail.
