Football season is in full swing for most schools. The Lane College Dragons started off their season against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. This game did not go the Dragons’ way as they fell in a tightly contested game- 42-48. Things started strong as the Dragons wasted no time showing off their offense as Senior quarterback Michael Huntley found receiver Jacquez Jones on the third play from scrimmage for a 70-yard touchdown. Then in the second quarter, the two teams traded blows as the Dragons’ scored off a thirty yard pass reception from Ike Brown. Pine Bluff would answer with a touchdown reception of their own, hauled in by Raequan Prince to end the half. The second half see Pine Bluff score 21 points in the third quarter to the Dragons’ 14. The Dragons’ would be the only team to score in the fourth, but they fell just short of victory falling to 0-1 on the season.
Week 2 saw Lane battling Benedict College. This was a low scoring affair as Lane got shut out 14-0 in the game. The Benedict College Tigers shut down the Lane Dragons and held them to just 92 yards of total offense on a wet and muddy field and took a 14-0 victory on Saturday. The Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season. Lane falls to 0-2. This game does not count in the SIAC standings. The big question now stands; how do the Dragons bounce back from a rocky start to the season?
Lane will take on Savannah State University, Saturday, September 15th @ 12p.m.
