­Police Charge Juvenile with July Convenience Store Robbery and Robbery, Kidnapping

Jackson police have charged a 17-year-old male with the July 31 robbery of Circle K at 3162 N. Highland Ave. and the robbery, kidnapping of a 17-year-old male.

The 17-year-old male, who was a reported runaway, was arrested Aug. 21 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Jackson police picked the teen up from a juvenile detention center in Volusia County, Fla. and booked him in at the Madison County Juvenile Center Friday evening. He faces charges of aggravated robbery for the convenience store and aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping for the personal attack.

The District Attorney General's Office will file a motion to have the teen tried as an adult.

Around 12:35 a.m. on July 31, the teen, who was then 16, entered the Circle K. He was armed with a handgun and demanded money. He took cash and then fled on foot.
 

Later that day around 6:40 p.m., the 17-year-old victim picked up the 16-year-old, who was a friend. The suspect asked the victim to pick up another man at an apartment on the 600 block of Old Humboldt Road. When the second man got into the car, he was armed with a handgun. The victim was forced to drive to two different ATM machines and withdraw money. The victim gave the gunman money.

The victim then drove the gunman to the 100 block of E. University Parkway. The gunman took the victim's wallet and cell phone before getting out of the car and fleeing.

The victim drove the 16-year-old suspect to the 100 block of Oil Well Road where he then got out of the car. The suspect made a statement to the victim about not calling the police. The suspect was on the run leading up to his arrest in Fla.

Investigators are attempting to identify the gunman involved in the robbery, kidnapping. He was described as a black male.
