Preliminary information for Checkmate 2
Operation Checkmate is a law enforcment saturation effort intended to pressure and capture criminals, remove illegal contraban such as illegal weapons, drugs, and minimize the abilty of criminals to commit illegal activity. The operation also gives law enforcement the opportunity to positively interact with law abiding citizens in an effort to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Approximately 90 Officers from Jackson Police Department participated in the operation. This does not include the manpower on the street answering calls for service.
As of 8:00 p.m., Jackson Police Department had recorded 16 arrests, seized 2 guns and 24 grams of marijuana.
Of the 16 arrests, one was a fugitive wanted in Indiana, one arrest was for violation of parole, and two arrests were for violation of probation.
Officers did 28 sex offender compliance checks. Of those, 25 were in compliance, one was out of compliance and two could not be verified.
Officers have also written 37 citations for a total of 64 violations.
