JFD responds to fire at townhouse on Walker Road in North Jackson

From the Jackson Fire Department –

At 5:36 a.m., this morning the Jackson Fire Department responded to a report of smoke inside a townhouse located at 723 Walker Road.

Upon arrival firefighters observed smoke and fire coming from the rear exterior wall and extending up into the attic space of one of the four attached townhomes.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, however the originating townhouse received moderate fire damage to the exterior wall, living room and an upstairs bedroom.

Another of the three adjoining townhouses received light smoke damage. The two additional attached townhouses were not affected by the fire.

The occupants of the four units were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Fire officials coordinated with the local Red Cross to attend to the temporary needs of the family
affected by the fire.

All other tenants were able to return back to their living units. The fire is believed to have started on the back porch in a bucket used to contain discarded smoking materials.

This morning’s fire is the first residential fire in the City of Jackson in the year 2020.

Jackson Fire officials urge all residents to evaluate their homes for potential fire hazards and working
smoke alarms during this new year.

Residents needing smoke alarm(s) can receive them free of charge from the Jackson Fire Department, by calling (731)-425-8347 for more information.
