Jerry Woods, who lost his bid to become the Mayor of Jackson, issued a statement congratulating Scott Conger on his win early Wednesday evening.
The statement was sent by McGruder Harris, a political consulting firm in Washington, D.C.
“Congratulations to Mayor-Elect Scott Conger on becoming the 35th Mayor of Jackson. I wish his administration all the best in the weeks, months and years ahead as he works to move our great city forward.
For nine months our team has worked tirelessly to spread our message to Jackson voters. As a result, I felt compelled to not concede on last evening, instead opting to await the official election results to ensure every vote (including provisional ballots) has been counted.
But what matters now is what’s best for the City of Jackson and our residents.
I want to thank the people of Jackson, none of this would have been possible without their support.
I look forward to continuing to work and serve my fellow residents through community service for years to come.”
