Jeff Manley wins Albert A. Stone Jr. Cup Golf Tournament

The third time was a charm for Jeff Manley, who won the 12th annual Albert A. Stone Jr. Cup Golf Tournament, at Jackson Country Club, Tuesday.

Playing in his third final, Manley defeated close friend Aaron Ingalls 1 up in a tournament that seemed to have no end.

The final round of match play was halted after eight holes Sunday, and Manley and Ingalls found themselves where they started after 10 holes Tuesday – all even.

“I won it with my wedges,” Manley said. “It was special to win it with my wife and kids here. I’ve played this tournament 11 straight times, and Aaron and I play together all the time, so this was pretty special.”

Playing hole No. 1 in the playoff, Manley hit the middle of the fairway with his drive and Ingalls pushed his tee shot to the right into a wooded area.

“My short game was pretty good, but my driver … I just didn’t hit the face of the club,” Ingalls said. “This was my first time in the final, and it was a lot of fun, and (tournament director) Hank (Shackelford) did a really good job.”

Manley found the middle of the green with his second shot in the playoff, and Ingalls followed with a shot that landed in a sand trap.

Manley’s birdie putt won the match – and the title of Jackson’s top amateur golfer for 2017.
