JEA Board of Directors approve 2 resolutions during monthly meeting

Besides approving two resolutions, the Board of Directors of Jackson Energy Authority had additional matters to attend to during their monthly meeting at the Tennergy Center, Thursday,

“The JEA board reviewed the audit report provided by ATA,” said Monte Jones, chairman of the Board of Directors at Jackson Energy Authority. “Financial results were strong and the audit was good. JEA continues to operate soundly and meets all the federal and state requirements under which it is judged.

“JEA’s CEO (Monte Cooper) gave an update on pending potential winter weather and let the board know that the staff has been planning for work which may need to occur if weather conditions deteriorate. Projections for weather seem like the large ice storm that occurred in 1994, and preparations are being planned for that potential.

“Also, the board heard updates on the financial condition of all divisions and recognized some associates on their upcoming retirements. An updated organizational chart was reviewed that follows JEA’s succession planning for their management roles.

“Lastly, the board recognized Mechelle Williams for her leadership as CFO (Chief Financial Officer) due to her upcoming retirement.”

Monte Jones said the board approved two resolutions for the purchase of materials.

The resolutions –

  • Approved the purchase of 30,000’ of 954 aluminum ACSR conductor, which will be used to construct a 46 KV transmission line to interconnect Silicon Ranch’s Solar Generation project to JEA’s transmission system.

Border States from Jackson, TN, was selected following a bid of $117,000. They were selected over Graybar from Kansas City, Mo., Cape Electric from Chattanooga, WESCO from Memphis and Irby from Jackson.

Management recommended Border States – 12-14 weeks lead time – because time was ‘of the essence’ for the project.

  • Authorized the purchase of twenty-five (25) steel transmission poles for the Electric Division.

The steel poles will be used as needed for upcoming capital improvement projects.

Irby from Jackson, TN, submitted a low bid of $128,210.

The lead time for the project is 16-20 weeks.
