Jaydon Peete, a sophomore on the Milan High School football team, received the NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week’ award, sponsored by Victory Honda of Jackson.
Peete’s seven tackles, three tackles for a loss, sack, punt block and three touchdowns all played an important part in Milan’s 48-6 win over Trenton Peabody on Oct. 20.
“If we come out and have a good week at practice then it’s going to result in the game,” said Peete. “I watch film and then ask the coaches about what I need to do better. I perfect it during practice so that I don’t have any questions during the game.”
Milan High School Head Coach Derek Carr emphasized that his team wants their players to understand that working hard during practice will ensure that the scoreboard takes care of itself.
“If we attack the process the right way, Monday through Thursday, then it’ll take care of itself on Friday night,” said Carr. “I’m extremely excited about the opportunities that these guys have ahead of them. Being 8-1 is just a testament to the hard work they’ve put in.”
Milan is currently 5-1 in the district and ranked 3rd in 2A Region 6 Football Standings. They will play Riverside on Oct. 27 for their last regular season game.
