Jayce Barksdale, a junior wide receiver and cornerback at the University School of Jackson, has been named the NEWS/TALK 101.5 FM, WNWS.COM football ‘Player of the Week,’ presented by Mann’s Wrecker and AJD Metal Designs.com.
Jayce had six receptions for 101 yards and one touchdown in USJ’s 24-17 win over previous No. 2 Hardin County High School (NEWS/TALK Coaches Poll), September 9.
Defensively, Jayce added eight tackles from his cornerback position.
“Definitely a team effort,” Jayce said of the award, “We would not have been able to win without everybody competing and doing their job.
“We came out very energized, ready to play. We worked really hard (last week). Our game plan was to cover the passing game and I think our db’s (defensive backs) did a good job with that.
“It allowed our defensive line to get some sacks and our game plan was also to run the ball.”
Coaches quote –
“Jayce is a versatile player for us and is well deserving of this award,” said Michael Stroup, USJ’s head football coach, “He made one heck of a one-handed catch last Friday for a touchdown. I’m very proud of his efforts and the effort of his teammates and our coaching staff last week.”
