Rapid Response Ensures Safety of Staff and Visitors at Jackson City Hall
Jackson, Tenn. – A rapid, coordinated response by the Jackson Police Department (JPD), CID Investigators, and SWAT personnel safely secured Jackson City Hall on Tuesday morning following a report of a threat directed at municipal employees.
At approximately 11 AM on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, officers responded to City Hall located at 101 E. Main St., established a secure perimeter, and took decisive action to safeguard all staff and visitors inside the facility. JPD officers, CID Investigators, and SWAT personnel brought the situation to a swift resolution taking one individual into custody for questioning without further incident.
The individual was identified as 46-year-old James Andrew Farmer.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the quick, professional response from our law enforcement officers and for the cooperation of our employees throughout this situation. Today is a reminder that threats of violence have no place in our community, political or otherwise. We can disagree. We can debate. But violence and threats of violence cross a line that should never be crossed,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “Thank you to the men and women who responded today and did exactly what we count on them to do: protect people and keep our community safe.”

I want to commend our officers for their swift, courageous, and professional response to eliminate threats, and I assure every member of our community that we will always act decisively to keep you safe,” said Chief Thom Corley. “We fully understand our community’s desire for quick answers and the media’s need for timely updates. However, releasing information prematurely can jeopardize the integrity of an investigation, compromise future prosecutions, and infringe upon the rights of those involved. Our priority must always be ensuring a thorough, accurate, and just process.”
Charges against Farmer are currently pending as the investigation remains active. Further updates will be provided as additional verified details become available.
