Progress may not be the best word to describe the amount of construction activity taking place on West Deaderick Street.
Grading work continues, lines are being laid and foundations are being built at the 10-acre site on the street that West Jackson Baptist Church once called home for an expansion consisting of 120 new apartments and 40 single-family residences.
The area will connect to Jackson Walk Phase I and the University of Memphis Lambuth.
Patton & Taylor Construction Company is building the project for Healthy Community LLC co-developers Hal Crocker of Jackson and Memphian Henry Turley.
The first apartment complex is expected to be complete by October, with a target set for late Spring 2018 for the other three apartment buildings.
It is hoped three of the new homes will be completed in early 2018.
Also, 13 homes not associated with the project are in the process of being renovated or razed near the construction site.
