Jackson Rotary Club presents $20,000 in academic scholarships

The presentation was held at Clayton Hall, First United Methodist Church, Jackson, TN

The Jackson Rotary Club is proud to announce its 2023 annual scholarship award recipients. This is the Club’s 25th year to present annual scholarship awards.

Each of the scholarship recipients will receive $2,000 to be used at the college of their choice.

Every year, schools select a student for each month school is in session to attend Jackson Rotary Club meetings as a Junior Rotarian. The student attends Rotary meetings and learns how Rotary impacts the Jackson community and the world while Rotarians learn about the students, their accomplishments, and their goals.

The Jackson Rotary Club selects one Junior Rotarian from each of the nine area high schools for the scholarship award.

Again this year, in addition to the nine school recipients, The Jackson Rotary Club continued the Thomas Aud Scholarship Award in memory of a long time, integral member of the Club who passed away in 2019.

The merits of this scholarship are similar to the others, but with a greater emphasis on community service as Tom Aud truly lived his life by the Rotary motto of “Service above Self.”

This year’s Rotary Scholars, along with the college they plan to attend are:

Early College High: Jessica Johnson – Lincoln Memorial University
Jackson Christian: Emma Gaskill – Harding University
Liberty Technology: Isabela Nolasco – University of Memphis
Madison Academic: Braden Nye – Auburn University at Montgomery
North Side: Kayla Mackey – MTSU
Sacred Heart of Jesus: Ava Cox – Wofford College
South Side: Cooper Moss – UT Martin
Trinity Christian Academy: Paxton Harwell – Union University
University School of Jackson: Lilly Kate Varino – UT Chattanooga
Thomas Aud Scholarship Recipient: Paris Hodge from Madison Academic attending UT Martin

“What a pleasure it has been to get to know the students that visit Rotary each month. It is assuring to see the quality of students that are in our public schools as well as the local privately supported schools,” stated Greg Alexander, part of the Rotary Scholars program. “Each month we see nine of the most impressive high school students. While they are all remarkable, we are delighted to honor these with scholarships to recognize their work.”

Funding for the Rotary Scholars Program is provided through fundraisers through the year and from the generous donations and pledges from members.

The Jackson Rotary Club, Jackson’s oldest civic organization with over 100 members has been serving the Jackson community for 107 years and meets in Clayton Hall at First United Methodist Church downtown each Wednesday.
