Before Dr. Eric Jones, the new superintendent of Jackson-Madison County Schools began greeting well-wishers at a reception at the Jackson Chamber, Tuesday, he paused to comment about the beginning of the new school year.
“We’re off to a great start, and we’re down to a few teaching positions to fill,” Dr. Eric Jones said. “The teachers are excited, the kids are excited and we have a few wrinkles here and there that we have to work out.
“We’re looking forward to really developing a strong school climate and culture throughout our district where people feel good where our schools and our district are headed.”
No stranger to the Jackson-Madison County School System, Jones first taught and coached boys basketball at Madison Academic High School in 2003.
Jones left Madison following the 2006 school year to become the assistant principal at Liberty Technology Magnet High School, followed by a one-year stint as interim principal at Liberty for the 2008-09 school year.
For the next four years, Jones served as principal at Jackson Central-Merry High School before leaving the system for J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, Alabama.
Before becoming the superintendent of Jackson-Madison County Schools, Jones, who makes his home in Jackson with his wife, Megan, and two children, was employed by the National Institute for School Leadership in Washington, D.C.
