The Jackson-Madison County Library celebrated its 50th anniversary at 433 East Lafayette St., Saturday.
“It’s been awesome,” Dinah Harris said. “The turnout and the support has been wonderful.”
Harris has served as director of the library for 5.5 years.
“The best thing is how the community values the library, and the role it plays,” Harris said. “It empowers people to a better life through technology, literacy and community building.”
Harris said the celebration was a way to introduce a new logo – ‘Opening Doors.’
The Jackson-Madison County Library first opened in 1903 in the Carnegie Building at 305 East College Street.
“The library opened here, on Sept., 15, 1968,” Harris said. “This is very humbling, and energizing.”
