(July 30, 2013) Jackson, Tenn.- The West Tennessee Healthcare Board met on Tuesday and received a report from the stroke team.
On June 24, they received Primary Stroke Center Certification with a perfect score. A feat that Tim Adams, Executive Director of Neurosciences, was told doesn’t often happen on the first try.
The 50 person team team took a 187 step process down to a 47 step process and shaving upwards of 30 minutes of precious time. They were evaluated on the following metrics:
-Program management
-Delivering/facilitating clinical care
-Supporting self management
-Clinical information management
-Performance measurement
Jennifer Brand, Stroke Program Coordinator, said that, “Time is Brain.” The longer you wait, the more neurons your brain loses. Brand says that you can lose 2 million neurons a minute during a stroke.
One thing that the nurses and parients in the hospitals who have had strokes are tought the FAST method.

S-Speech is non-sensical or jumbled
T-Time. Call 911. Time is brain.
