Kevin Cron’s 17th home run of the season highlighted the Jackson Generals 9-6 win over the Birmingham Barons at the Ballpark at Jackson, Friday.
Cron finished the game with three RBIs and Jamie Westbrook and Galli Cribbs added two each for the Generals, who evened their best of five series with the Barons at two games apiece.
Mason McCullough earned his first win at the Double-A level, and Gabriel Moya saved his 14th game and while lowering his earned run average to 0.96.
The Generals send Taylor Clarke (7-4, 2.74 ERA)to the mound to face the Barons at 6:05 p.m., tonight.
It’s also Jackson’s ‘Champion Celebration.’
The first 1,000 fans receive a replica Jackson Generals championship ring in recognition of the 2016 Southern League champions, and fireworks bring the evening’s activities to a close.
NOTES: Jared Miller, a left-handed pitcher, has been promoted to the Reno Aces of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League.
Miller (0.86 ERA), named Jackson’s pitcher of the month for June by the parent club Arizona Diamondbacks, appeared in 10 games for the Generals and allowed one run in 13.2 innings while striking out 14.
In his last 22 outings overall, Miller posted a 1.65 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 27.1 innings.
The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Miller in the 11th round in the 2014 MLB Draft after helping Vanderbilt win the College Baseball World Series.
