The conditions didn’t exactly say marathon, but a driving rain and temperatures in the 40s could not deter Jackson’s Wade Norris from competing in the oldest – and most prestigious – road race in the world, Monday.
Wade joined 27,546 of his best friends and completed the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon in three hours and 43 minutes.
“It was my hardest marathon, and I labored,” Wade said. “It was my fourth time to run Boston, and I ran my worst time. I had to bundle up … the wind was at 26 miles per hour, and it really affected me.”
A businessman, Wade owns Wade Norris Logging, LLC, which has been in business since 1992.
The company works with various sawmills in Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky.
Wade was honored as the as Forest Resources Association’s 2016 South Central Region Outstanding Logger and the 2014 Tennessee Master Logger of the Year by the Tennessee Forestry Association.
An avid runner, Wade’s best time in the Boston Marathon came in 2017, when he posted a 3:18.
“I had to run a 3:25 at Boston to re-qualify,” Wade said. “But Monday, it was about finishing, and not finishing with a good time with these tough conditions.”
