‘It could have been worse,’ Fire destroys buildings at Morris Nursery on Hollywood Drive

Morris Nursery and Landscapes, Inc., 2108 Hollywood Drive is open for business following a fire that ignited from a burn barrel at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday.

“We burn small scraps, and with the way the wind was blowing it sparked the ground and spread out of control,” said Mark Evans, an employee with Morris Nursery. “It could have been worse.”

There were no injuries, but the nursery lost the potting shed and tool/equipment shop.

“We appreciate the First Responders – the Jackson Fire Department,” Mark said. “It took about 15-to-20 minutes to get the fire out, and they stayed to check on the hot spots. They did a great job.”
