Mayor Jerry Gist has named Lieutenant Larry Price as Jackson’s interim police chief. Lt. Price has had extensive experience within the JPD. Hired in 1972, Lt. Price has served in various capacities: traffic patrol officer, juvenile investigator, CID investigator, and assistant director of the Drug Task Force. Lt. Price served as administrative assistant to Chief Staples during his last ten years of service.

Since retirement in 2005, Lt. Price has worked part time conducting background checks on all new hires within the department. Lt. Price has served under three police chiefs. He is not a candidate for the new police chief position.

Mayor Gist stated, “I look forward to working with Larry as our interim police chief. Larry’s vast experience within the department certainly gives him the credentials to fulfill this responsibility in a sincere and professional manner. Larry is highly respected within the department and by county, state and federal law enforcement officials. I have full confidence in Larry, and I know that he will do an outstanding job as interim police chief.”

Lt. Price said, “I’m thrilled that the mayor has the confidence in me to appoint me to this important position. My goal is to keep everything on a even keel and moving forward until a new chief is selected.”

With the assistance from the University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Assistance Service, the job description for the new chief has been finalized. The position has been posted with the city personnel office.
