Indiana, Georgia named Wednesday night Miss Volunteer America preliminary winners

The Miss Volunteer America Pageant kicked its second annual competition off on Wednesday night at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

Stevie Griffin, Miss Indiana Volunteer, earned the night one preliminary Fitness & Health award.

“I knew how I wanted to feel on stage,” said Griffin. “It wasn’t as much about a physical physique that I was trying to achieve as it was an emotional feeling.”

Victoria Hill, Miss Georgia Volunteer, received the night one preliminary Talent award with her opera performance of Habañera.

“I just graduated from the Eastman School of Music with my degree in vocal performance,” said Hill. “I’ve been training for a long time in several different languages and vocal techniques trying to hone my craft.”

Also announced during Wednesday’s show was Miss Volunteer America’s new partnership with St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.

Each state will focus on inspiring young women to get involved in fundraising for the organization, bringing all 50 states together for a common humanitarian effort.

Preliminary competition will continue on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and finals will be held Saturday at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at www.missvolunteeramerica.com and a live stream is available at pageantslive.com.
