High school football stadiums at North Side and South Side are being demolished to make way for new structures.
New metal bleachers will replace concrete facilities at both locations, and weather permitting, the stadiums are expected to be ready for the 2019 football season.
“The bleachers have been ordered and will be assembled before they are delivered,” said Ray Washington, chief operations officer for the Jackson-Madison County School System, “There’s also infrastructure work that has to be completed at both stadiums.”
Additional amenities at both locations will include new concession stands, ticket booths and restrooms.
Landscaping will be done professionally, with students from both schools participating.
Washington added the stadiums will include a paved oval, which will allow practice for track programs at each school and students in physical education classes.
