Health Care Pharmacy may have opened in 1983, but it’s relationships, superior customer service, strong ties within the community and low prescription prices that’s built the business at 505 Roland Avenue.
It’s also a reason Congressman David Kustoff, 8th Congressional District, visited owner Matt Baker, Friday, to take a closer look at day-to-day operations, and discuss the issues that small, independent pharmacies face today.
“I’ve been visiting with hospitals with pharmacies, independent pharmacies and other health care providers trying to get a better feel for a number of things,” Kustoff said, “No. 1 is patient access to care, whether that is on the doctor’s side, the hospital side, the pharmacy side … how patients today are coping with rising co-pays, access to medication, and I’m also meeting with law enforcement, pharmacies and the providers as it relates to opioids.
“For me, the issue is, I work on legislation … the last thing I want to do is work on legislation that from a practical standpoint doesn’t benefit consumers, doesn’t benefit patients – it doesn’t give people better access to health care.”
For Matt Baker, who has owned Health Care Pharmacy, since Jan. 1, 2018, Kustoff’s visit was a shot in the arm.
“He (Kustoff) wants to know more about transparency, and he’s here to see what affects us and how it can be resolved,” Baker said, “Anything that will help small business I’m all for it.”
“We care more about the customer – the patient – than the big chain.”
Customers entering Health Care Pharmacy, Friday, were addressed by their first name.
“We have the privilege of getting to know our customers, as well as being able to offer them short wait times and lower costs,” Baker said, “Serving people is our passion, and we appreciate the efforts of Congressman Kustoff as he continues to fight for small businesses.”
