Goldeyes enter into license agreement with City for Ballpark at Jackson

The Jackson City Council approved a proposal for a license agreement for future use of The Ballpark at Jackson, during its monthly meeting at City Hall, Tuesday.

The agreement also allows the Winnipeg Goldeyes to continue playing at the ballpark during the 2021 American Association baseball season.

“We are requesting proposals for the use of our stadium,” Lewis Cobb said, “Between the time the request has gone out and reponse has taken and decisions made, we are going to issue some limited licenses for use for events – like concerts.”

Cobb, the Attorney for the City of Jackson, said the city has entered into an agreement with the Goldeyes where they have licensed the use of the stadium.

Ownership of the Goldeyes have the option to use management of the Jackson Generals to run the day-to-day operations of the ballclub, considering Winnipeg will not be relocating its staff to Jackson for the 2021 season.

Winnipeg will pay the the city $1, while maintaining expenses for salaries and travel.

The City will pay the utilities, routine maintenance of the facility and groundskeeping.

“We are maintaining what is ours – the stadium,” Cobb said, “It’s for baseball, and we’ve provided the details of that in the agreement. What the city is trying to do is make the best use of our stadium and request proposals – and while we are waiting for a long-term solution we are trying to do the best we can with short-term opportunities.”

Cobb said anyone – any event – wanting to use the stadium will have to apply for a license.
