Closing out a five-game series with an 8-2 win at Birmingham, Sunday, the Jackson Generals may wish they could bring the Barons with them when they resume play, at the Ballpark at Jackson, Tuesday.
While that’s not possible, the Generals (52-48, 15-15 second half) return home looking to increase a three-game winning streak when they face the Mobile BayBears, the Southern League’s Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, at 6:05 p.m., Tuesday.
In Sunday’s final at Birmingham, Kevin Cron, Travis Denker, Oscar Hernandez and Kelly Dugan homered for the Generals and Ivan Pineyro (8-0, 3.06) allowed one run (earned) and struck out five in 6.1 innings of work.
Cron’s home run, a solo shot in the first, was his league leading 19th.
Denker added a two-run home run in the third; Hernandez went solo in the top of the fifth, and Dugan completed the Derby with a two-run home run in the eighth.
