Ryan Atkinson’s debut at the Double-A level was a success, and the Jackson Generals ended a two-game losing streak winning 8-1 over the visiting Mobile BayBears at the Ballpark at Jackson, Saturday.
Atkinson (1-0, 1.69 ERA) gave up six hits and one run while striking out six in 5.1 innings of work.
Leading 2-1 after five innings, the Generals exploded for six runs in the sixth and improved to 18-17 (55-50 overall).
Victor Reyes, Kevin Cron and Angel Franco went 2-for-4 to lead the Generals in hitting.
Franco added his second home run of the season, a solo shot in the first inning.
The Generals continue play at home when they open a five-game series with the Tennessee Smokies at 6:05 p.m., Sunday.
