When the Jackson Generals played the Tennessee Smokies at the Ballpark at Jackson on July 4, a crowd of 4,027 was in attendance.

Consider this – In a Major League game that was played at the same time at Marlins Park in Miami, the Miami Marlins outdrew the Generals by 3,545, when 7,572 showed up for a game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Marlins are averaging 7,572 per game, which is last in Major League Baseball.

The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, will host Game 1 and Game 2 of the North Division Series in the 2018 Southern League Playoffs on September 5 and 6 at The Ballpark at Jackson.

The Generals finished atop the North Division in the First Half with a 39-30 record, earning an automatic postseason bid for the second time in three seasons.

The Generals’ home playoff games will be presented by Jersey Mike’s Subs in Jackson.

The North Division series is a best-of-five series, and the winner of the NDS will advance to the 2018 Southern League Championship Series, presented by BC Powder.

Although he has been called up to Triple A, Kevin Medrano was named the organization’s Player of the Month for June.

He is now with the Reno Aces, the Triple A affiliate of the Diamondbacks in the Pacific Coast League.

Medrano, 27, hit .371 (36-for-97) with 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 16 RBI in 25 games in June for Double-A Jackson.

He ranked among Southern League leaders last month in average (1st), hits (1st), doubles (2nd), OPS (4th, .939), OBP (T-4th, .413), slugging pct. (5th, .526), extra-base hits (T-5th) and RBI (T-7th), and was promoted to Reno, June 30.

The Generals continue their four-game series with the Tennessee Smokies at 6:05 p.m., at the Ballpark at Jackson, today.
